How to Fully Upgrade Wolf Blade in Ghost of Yotei (‘Like Father, Like Daughter’ Trophy)

The Wolf Blade is one of the first weapons that Atsu will get on her adventure in Ghost of Yotei. Crafted by her father to protect their family, the Wolf Blade is a katana that can be upgraded several times throughout the course of your adventure. As is the case in most games, the weapon requires different materials for each upgrade, which in turn require you to visit different areas of the map. In this guide, I’ll explain how to fully upgrade the Wolf Blade in Ghost of Yotei, so you can wield this powerful blade and unlock the ‘Like Father, Like Daughter’ trophy.

All Wolf Blade Upgrade Material Requirements in Ghost of Yotei

The Wolf Blade can be upgraded four times, each of which requires Metals. However, after the first upgrade, you’ll also need additional materials, which can only be found in certain areas. The materials required for each upgrade are:

  • Upgrade 1: 20 Metals
  • Upgrade 2: 20 Metals + 20 Oni Raider Mask Pieces
  • Upgrade 3: 20 Metals + 20 Shinobi Steel
  • Upgrade 4: 60 Metals + 15 Gun Parts + 15 Rare Metals

It’s worth noting that Upgrades two and three are interchangeable and can be done in whichever order you like. The order you get the required materials for these two upgrades will depend on the order you take on the Yotei Six. I’d recommend getting the upgrades as soon as you can. Once you have the required materials to upgrade the Wolf Blade, a notification will appear to let you know.

Where to Upgrade the Wolf Blade in Ghost of Yotei

Once you’ve got the materials, you need to return to your family home in the Yotei Grasslands and interact with your father’s forge. Your family home can be found on the north edge of Lake Shikotsu and east of the Shikotsu Woods. I’ve included a screenshot of its map location above.

You now need to head to the forge, close to the house, and interact with it to bring up the ‘Upgrade’ menu.

If you don’t want to travel by horse, select your home on the map, and press X to fast travel to it. You can even set your destination as your father’s forge.

Select the Wolf Blade from the list and then choose the upgrade that you want. You don’t have to do the little forging mini-game every time if you don’t want to, but it is quite satisfying!

Where to Find All Wolf Blade Upgrade Materials in Ghost of Yotei

As I hinted at above, some of the materials required for each upgrade can only be found in certain regions of the map. I’ve outlined how to get metals, oni raider mask pieces, shinobi steel, gun parts, and rare metals below.

  • Metals: Can be obtained by interacting with ore deposits found around the world, looted from defeated enemies, and in Yotei Six Camps. These are fairly common, but seem to spawn on mountains or by rock faces. They can also be purchased from merchants.
  • Oni Raider Mask Pieces: As the name suggests, these are dropped by enemies once you’ve reached ‘The Oni’ main tale.
  • Shinobi Steel: Dropped by enemies in the Teshio Ridge region, which you’ll explore as part of ‘The Kitsune’ main tale. It can also be found in chests at Yotei Six Camps and given as a reward for completing some side quests.
  • Gun Parts: Dropped by enemies in Oshima Coast, which you’ll explore as part of ‘The Saito Brothers’ main tale. It can also be found in chests at Yotei Six Camps.
  • Rare Metals: Found in gold ore deposits and in chests at Yotei Six Camps.

The main thing to keep in mind is that, in most cases, you will naturally acquire the materials you need to upgrade the Wolf Blade as you progress through the game. As long as you’re completing some of the side tales, activities, and exploring the map, then you won’t need to go too out of your way to get what you need.

After purchasing the fourth upgrade for the Wolf Blade, you’ll unlock the ‘Like Father, Like Daughter’ trophy, taking you one step closer to the coveted platinum.
