Real lost 2-0 to Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday in a sobering performance, in which Kylian Mbappe missed a penalty as Los Blancos lost for the third time in the Champions League this season. Madrid are also second in La Liga, four points behind Barcelona, who beat them 4-0 in a one-sided El Clasico clash.

Bellingham claims his side are taking "one step forward, two steps back" as they try to turn their European form around. As it stands, they are 24th in the league table in the Champions League, the final position from which they can reach the knockout play-off round.

Bellingham wrote on Instagram: "Always one step forward and two steps back at the moment, really disappointing performance and result despite the brilliant opponent. Must thank and apologise to all the Madridistas that followed us in England. No point dwelling on what we can no longer change, we have to remain together and push each other in this next important stretch of games!"
